Benjamin Helton is a deeply passionate musician, teacher, and student based in the Greenwich Village neighborhood of New York City. Since August of 2024, Benjamin has studied at The New School in Manhattan. He is pursuing a dual degree program and plans to graduate with a bachelor's degree in Jazz Piano Performance and a bachelor's degree in Political Science. Being deeply interested in government and economics, Benjamin plans on attending law school and eventually engaging in a legal and political career. Benjamin began taking piano lessons when he was 6 years old under the direction of Abigail Huston at Butler University in Indianapolis, Indiana. Following lessons with Huston, He studied under Dr. Marge Lucas, NCTM, for 4 years before she moved to pursue a teaching position in Chicago. From 2017 until 2024, Benjamin was a student of Jacquelyn Jones Murphy, NCTM. In addition to his piano and political studies, Benjamin is also interested in pipe organ with a specific enthusiasm for theatre pipe organ. As of January 2025, Benjamin serves as the Youth Representative to the Board of Directors of the American Theatre Organ Society. Benjamin also serves as 2nd Vice President of the Central Indiana Chapter of the American Theatre Organ Society. He takes lessons on the theatre pipe organ under esteemed Central Indiana-based organist Justin Stahl. At The New School's College of Performing Arts and the Mannes School of Music, Benjamin works as a piano technician--working to maintain and tune hudreds of Steinway and Yamaha pianos across the school's campus in Greenwich Village. With over seven years of teaching experience at Pitch Perfect Piano Studio, The Indianapolis Music Academy, and Tian Song Musical Arts, Benjamin looks forward to helping students on their musical journey by nurturing creativity and fostering success.
