In beginning piano lessons, one of the first questions I ask students is what would they like to gain from lessons. This simple question determines much of how we proceed. With most first-time piano students, we begin our lessons in the Faber Piano Adventures series of books. These are a wonderful resource both for me as a teacher and the students. Beginning with the "Primer" level, these books thoughtfully detail everything from learning proper hand position and finding keys to improvisation and musicianship. After a student's skills become well-established, I introduce more music to their repertoire ranging from Bach and Beethoven to Disney and jazz pieces. At this point, I also begin assigning scales, chord progressions, and finger exercises to aid in finger dexterity and ear training. My favorite stage in lessons is when we begin woeking working on pieces that the student enjoys. I have worked with students on everything from classical pieces to music heard on TikTok. This seems to be a turning point for many students where they begin to unlock their inner skills and love for the piano as an instrument and an outlet for expression.

I feel that finances should never be a determining factor in whether or not a student can receive music lessons. As long as a student is showing strong work ethic, determination, and progress, I am willing to adjust the above rates for families going though financial hardship. Please feel free to email me at playerpianobenjamin@gmail.com if you would like to discuss this.
Lessons are to be paid in full at the beginning of each month. I have a "no makeup lessons" policy with limited exceptions, but I will work in every way I can to provide an acceptable alternative (Ex: Online lesson or pre-recorded lesson). Students/Guardians showing signs of illness at in-person lessons will be asked to leave. The lesson will not be refunded. Online lessons are always available at no extra charge for ill students. Notice must be given at least 72 hours in advance of any absence to be refunded with limited exceptions. I will try to provide 72 hour notice to families if I am unable to teach. If possible, I will offer an online lesson during the student(s)' normal lesson time. If I am unable to teach and unable to provide a virtual lesson, the lesson will not be billed or payment will be credited towards the next month's invoice.
